Community Guidelines

Hum exists so people can see the whole story, not a single photo. That only works if this feels like a place where people can be themselves without bracing for harm. These Community Guidelines describe what we expect from everyone on Hum and what happens when someone falls short.

These Guidelines are part of our Terms of Use and are incorporated into them by reference. Breaking them can cost you your account. They work alongside our Safety Policy, which explains how we handle safety reports, and our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information.

1. Be Real

Hum is built on the premise that who you actually are is more interesting than a curated fragment. So:

Catfishing, romance fraud, and identity deception are among the fastest routes off this platform. Accounts we determine are fake or fraudulent are removed without warning.

2. Be Respectful

Disagreement is fine. Rejection is part of dating. Cruelty is not.

Do not harass, threaten, demean, or repeatedly contact someone who has stopped responding or has asked you to stop. Do not send abusive messages after being unmatched or rejected.

Hum does not permit hate speech or degrading content that targets people on the basis of:

Stating a preference is not the same as expressing contempt. The line we enforce is between describing what you are looking for and attacking who someone else is.

3. Consent Is the Whole Point

Sexual assault, sexual coercion, and non-consensual sexual conduct connected to Hum result in permanent removal and, where appropriate, referral to law enforcement.

4. Keep People Safe

The following are prohibited without exception:

5. No Scams, No Solicitation

Romance scams are the most common serious harm on dating platforms, and South Asian diaspora communities are actively targeted by them. Hum prohibits:

Never send money to someone you have not met in person. If a match asks, stop communicating and report the profile.

6. Respect Other People's Privacy

Doxxing, revenge posting, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images are grounds for permanent removal, and in many states are also crimes.

7. Profile and Content Standards

Your profile should show us who you are. It should not contain:

8. Conduct Away From Hum

What happens on a date is not outside our concern. If we receive a credible report of serious misconduct that arose from a connection made on Hum, including sexual assault, violence, stalking, threats, or fraud, we may investigate and remove the account, even though the conduct itself occurred off the platform. Serious criminal conduct anywhere may also be grounds for removal where it creates a credible risk to our members.

9. Reporting

If something feels wrong, tell us. You can:

Reporting is confidential. The member you report is not told who reported them. You can also block a member at any time, which stops all contact immediately, and blocking does not require a report.

We do not tolerate retaliation against anyone who makes a good-faith report. Retaliating is itself a violation of these Guidelines.

If you are in immediate danger, call 911 first. We will cooperate with law enforcement as described in our Safety Policy.

10. How We Enforce These Guidelines

We use a combination of automated detection and human review by our trust and safety team. Automated systems flag content for review; decisions to suspend or remove an account involve human judgment.

Depending on the severity of the violation, its context, and whether it has happened before, we may:

Some violations skip every intermediate step. Content involving minors, credible threats of violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and fraud result in immediate permanent removal and, where appropriate, a report to law enforcement.

Where we permanently remove an account, we may also take reasonable steps to prevent that person from creating a new one.

11. Appealing a Decision

We get things wrong sometimes. If your account has been suspended or removed and you believe that was a mistake, email support@thehumapp.com with the subject line "Account Appeal" and the email address on your account. A member of our trust and safety team who was not involved in the original decision will review it, and we will respond in writing with the outcome. Appeals are typically reviewed within fourteen days.

Where we have banned an account for fraud, we may disclose to affected members that the account was banned and the reason, without disclosing personally identifying information about the banned member, as permitted by New York General Business Law section 394-c.

12. Changes to These Guidelines

We may update these Guidelines as Hum grows and as we learn more about what our community needs. The current version will always live at thehumapp.com/community. If a change is material, we will notify you by email or through the Services. Continuing to use Hum after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Guidelines.
